Organizational Context

TheNutrition Associate will be working under direct supervision the Nutrition officerand will work within public health unit in Cox's Bazar. The role of this positionis focused around the implementation of Nutrition programmes community managementof acute malnutrition and prevention programmes such as infant and young childfeeding (IYCF) and blanket supplementary feeding programmes etc as per the international,UNHCR and nutrition sector guidelines.

The incumbentis required to work in a multisectoral manner with many of the sectors andprotection areas internally and externally to ensure involvement and integrationof nutrition activities in other sectors to address the high levels ofmalnutrition among children living in the refugee camps.

 There will be no direct supervision of staffinvolved in this role although supportive supervision and technical guidanceprovided to partners.

Responsibilities

Accountability:

-   The operation has the requiredtechnical support focussed on the prevention of malnutrition and infant andyoung child feeding (IYCF) to be better able to meet the needs of persons ofconcern and to appropriately coordinate and engage with other partner withinthe ISCG mechanism.

Responsibility:

 - Work alongside partners in theimplementation of Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) and nutrition preventionactivities, including in implementation, joint monitoring and supervision andtroubleshooting and problem solving where necessary.

- Work closely with other sectors andentities to reinforce the multisectoral linkages between nutrition and othersectors

-  Develop, alongside the protectionteams, a pilot of community led MUAC screening (Mothers Understand and Can Doit).

-   Assist in developing IYCF standard packages,protocols and methodologies within notably but not limited to the nutritionsector working groups.

-   Follow the food security situation inits relation to nutrition in this crisis, including coordination with WFP andother actors on the food distributions and other initiatives such as cash-basedinitiatives for food, targeting, etc.

- Report regularly on activities anddevelop case studies and short stories for M&E and learning purpose.

-  Prepare input for information,communication and advocacy on the health and nutrition situation of thepopulation and assist in acquiring information to present to donors, otheragencies and the government; as well as provide information for funding submissions,appeals or reports.

Authority:

- RepresentUNHCR nutrition in coordination meetings and liaise with partners, UN agencies,NGOs, and the Ministry ofHealth/RRRC to coordinate nutrition activities in the refugee response.

Accountability and Authority

Desirable:

- Prior relevant experience with UNHCR,other UN agencies or NGOs.

- Prior experience working in IDP orrefugee operations.

- Knowledge of the latest developmentsin community-based nutrition, infant and young child feeding,solid understanding of the pathwaysand linkages of malnutrition.

- Prior experience with small scalegrass roots research projects.

- Good report writing skills.

-  Previous experience in emergencies.

-  Knowledge of Rohingya/Chitagonianlanguage.

Language Requirements

Knowledgeof English and/or UN working language of the duty station if not English.

Minumum Qulification and Professional Experience Required

Years of Experience / DegreeLevel

-  Secondary school diploma withcertificate/training in Nutrition or another related field.

-   Minimum 6 years of previous relevant workexperience in implementing community-based.  

- Management of acute malnutrition (CMAM), Infantand young child feeding programmes (IYCF-E and CMAMI and BFHI ), coordinatingand implementation of nutrition assessments (SENS/SMART and coverage assessmentssuch SQUEAC/SLEAC).

- Computer skills in word processing, Exceland other relevant analysis software (ENA, Nutval and Epi-info).

-   Fluency in English (spoken and written).
